How to clean a bong

Regular use creates residue that builds up on your bong or bowl. This needs to be regularly cleaned. The substance is also a bit difficult to remove. It is sticky and tar-like. As a result, it cannot just be washed out with soap and water.

That said, cleaning is easy and fast. Regular cleaning is also highly recommended for maintaining the right flavor of your smoke.

Remember, the more you do it, the easier it becomes!

The following is an easy, step-by-step process to get the gunk off.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • A deep sink with running water
  • An alcohol solution (with higher Isopropyl levels for heavier cleaning)
  • Coarse salt (like rock or sea salt). You can also use rice
  • “Plug” materials (cotton balls, cotton swabs or hand towels)
  • Rubber band(s)
  • Pipe cleaners (for the hard to reach places)
  • Gloves

HOW TO CLEAN

Take apart your bong or pipe. This includes dismantling the mouthpiece and all removable parts. Rinse all the pieces with hot water. The water should be as hot as possible. Then allow to air dry.

The next cleaning step is to add the alcohol-salt solution.

It is also important to remember that the alcohol-salt mix is very important. Add enough salt to ensure that it won’t all dissolve in the alcohol. This also creates abrasion for scrubbing during the cleaning process. Then add the alcohol. Cover both the stem and tube with pieces of cotton and secure them.

Then shake the bong hard. Do this as much as you can for at least five minutes.

If cleaning a pipe, you can get the same effect by inserting the alcohol and salt mix into the tube and submerging the bowl in the solution.

Rinse and repeat for as many times as necessary.

Best of all? Say goodbye to that smelly, funky bong!
